Can you claim back paid stamp duty?

I bought a house as a first time buyer in July 2009 for 250k, which meant paying stamp duty. In light of the budget announcement today, do I have a case to claim it back? Very annoyed

In short, no. You pay taxes that are prescribed at the relevant point in time.

    Yes.

You can also claim back the £200,000 you didn't get by not buying 10 years ago.

And the £1m bonus you haven't been paid by not getting that job as a banker.

Forms are available in the "Claiming Back" forum.

  • Well Im raging. Bought our house on Feb 15th 2010 for £135000. A month and a half either way and we would have been exempt. Them are the breaks!

I paid almost 2 grand stamp duty in July as a FTB HOWEVER my house has since gone up in value by about 10k (although zoopla estimates £30k, i'm going on sold prices in our road) so I won't lose sleep

Don't vote Labour then as Conservatives said they would do what has just happened.
