Critical Illness v permanent health insurance. Do I need either?

Options
Hi
A little advice would be greatly appreciated as I think i'm paying for a policy that I don't really need...

Me and my partner bought a new home last year and have a mortgage on the property over 30 years for around £235K. She has various insurances which she has held since around the age of 18 so her critical cover is only about £10 per month and worth keeping.
The FSA on selling us the mortgage informed us that we would be best to get C/I cover as our re-payments were high and how would we keep the house if one became ill and the other had to nurse..etc.etc.etc. due to differing cost we decided not to cover the whole mortgage and just parts which made it a lot easier financially, should the other die and we could carry on working and have a much reduced mortgage...(if you see my thinking?)
I took out two policies with the Norwich union for C/I and Life insurance they are for £95,832 and £129,878 respectively over a period of 24 years. (The difference of the mortgage and cover being that in 24 years I would be 65.)
I pay £18.10 for the life cover which i'm not worried about however the C/I costs me £70.81 per month, which although N/U have stated the premiums will never rise neither will the payout I guess.
Here is my problem, I work in the public sector and pay 15% of my salary into a works pension. This has an ill health element which would pay out if I was unable to continue working. I don't retire for another 14 years so my guess was that perhaps I was wasting money on the critical illness part; as effectively I would only need it for the remaining 10 years?

Should I keep this policy going at all costs or switch to a permanent health insurance?
I want to make sure that financially we are ok, should anything happen but at the same time I don't want to waste £12K over the next 14 years....

your advice will be much appreciated!
