A bit of tabloidation, really it's a 10% rise on the duty payable on Cider, which won't affect the end price too much.
Still, it's weird how cider has been targeted along with alcopops. I can feel the people taking to the streets in Somerset!0 -
Thanks Mr Darling, that is going to make a massive difference, not.Iva started Dec 2018.0

I still remember when the last labour government relocated some to Glasgow:o.
The BBC interviewed some nerd wearing a pinstripe and a bowler. Some of his opinions were quite ridiculous and the interiewer asked if he had ever been to Scotland "My good man, I was in Newcastle only last week". The interviewer struggled hard to keep a straight face:rotfl:"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Wasn't there always a tax break on Cider to support the English producers ?0 -

Duty on beer, wine and spirits rises 2% a year until 2013.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

It's not a 1p rise.
The Government has withdrawn the subsidy to the refining industry to produce clean biofuels, which make up between 5 per cent and 7 per cent of every litre from the forecourt. That will add a further 1p a litre to the pump price when it feeds through from April 1
So its 2p from April. Plus VAT.0 -
