HSBC requesting ID

Hi,

After getting frustrated with LTSB, I applied for an HSBC Bank Account last week.

Today I get a letter asking for a proof of ID (Passport) and address (LTSB statement) to be taken to an HSBC branch to be processed.

Also, on the last page is a box to provide a specimen signature.

Would they go to all this trouble if I was declined? Or will they do their checks after this?

Will the fact that the LTSB statements will show over £4k balance maintained for last 3 months (I'm taking the whole statement for last 3 months that I just got in the post) have any sway with their underwriters if they're umm-ing and ahh-ing about it??

Cheers me dears!

I received the same letter: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2354029&highlight=hsbc

You may also show them an utility bill or a range of alternative documents (passport and driving licence, for instance).

it all depends on the type of account and whether or not they have already carried out their credit checks. they may have carried out a credit check but been unable to verify identity (are you on the electoral roll?) and once you take it in they will carry out an ID check at the very least.

either way, only one way to find out

Not been on electoral roll for 10 years. Re-registered at the end of last month though, as I fancy "sticking it to the man" at this election :D

You're probably right, but the request for a specimen signature must be a sign... anyhow, I'm off there later with me bits.

erm....sorry to burst your bubble, but you will be sticking it to no man. electoral rolls take up to 6 months to update. thats why councils send out the form to be completed by October

EDIT: This is a bit wrong...councils update their own rolls quicker, I was thinking of the amount of time it takes them to update to the CRA's

I had a letter from the electoral comission 3 weeks ago telling me that time was running out to register in time for the general election, so can't be 6 months ....

Well, it's arbitrary anyway, as I will not be voting Lambasting Labour or Glory Tory, so effectivley it's a wasted vote as no-one else is going to win the election.... but thats for a different thread :D

Still waiting for response from HSBC, but did get a letter from the local council stating that I am now on the electoral register. So thats a start.

Would calling HSBC be an option as it's been over a week now? If so, whats the best number?

sorry about my previous post....usually councils update quite quickly. When I said up to 6 months, I was thinking of the amount of time they take to update credit agencies
