who can i speak to

hi, my parents had someone call at the house selling double glazing ,which they signed up to . they had a loan plus insurance from ge money, they was paying it fine then when they thought they was near the end of paying everything they owed they rang up to ask how many payments was left and they was told 3, they then phoned again after paying and was told something like still 4 payments left ,they phoned a few different times and kept being told different amounts,i think someone said 2 payments owed 1 week and next week another person on the phone said 4 payments..they went up the cab but come back none the wiser, they then phoned some number off television who told them they dont deal with ge money but advised them to phone ombudsman, ombubdsman told them they are not allowed to give advice. last week my parents phoned up the windows people again and was told the insurance hasd been spread over something or other {even though my parents cancelled this quite a while ago} and that you still owe £800 BUT if you sign this form we send you then we will cancell the £800 you owe us and we will be all square....i think this sounds fishy and that the windows people or ge money prob owe my parents money,,i just cant see a company giving away £800 out of the goodness of their heart,,i,m sure my parents have overpaid them seeing as they keep geting told different amounts are owed and insurance was suppposed to be cancelled..does anyone one have any advice or a phone number of someone who can help ..thankyou

    Hi there

    Sorry to hear this.

It may be a good idea to request a Subject Access Request (SAR) where everything they hold on them since taking the finance out is held on them, this will or should include all calculations of what is paid, the balance etc etc.
Plus whatever else they have to send, hopefully a copy of the phone recordings made either way, if not then they should be written phone transcripts, dates times and what the conversation entails and so on.

There is a SAR letter template they send to GE money below with details, enclose £10 cheque or postal order and they have 40 days maximum to send all they hold to your parents.
I would also post by recorded delivery to have proof of posting.

When they receive this SAR go through everything, there should be something useful enclosed within, and take it from there, they could then write back and send them Copies of any evidence (not originals) with a letter, if they do not resolve then move on to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS).

Or contact the local CAB if they want to do this they sometimes have a free solicitors which will advise, either way, post back here if you want to and we shall take it from there.

Hope this helps, but personally if this was me in this situation maybe a SAR would be useful.
    Good luck with this.;)
