I wonder why they have so many too

There are only two reasons I can think of for having lots.

One is that people have forgotten to close them. This can cause problems when you have too much available credit. Also stops you getting new deals and also provides more opportuities for fraud.

Another reason is that people might be using them all, for example doing a lot of stoozing. At the present time with interest rates so low, it's difficult to make money out of stoozing particularly if you pay tax as often the fees exceed interest. However in the past it was posible for some people to borrow six figure sums on credit cards at 0% and get ineterst on the proceeds.

Neither of these constitute a reason for you to have lots.
Every place you give your infomation is a risk so it comes at a cost.
I would recommend having the minimum you need.
My preference would be to have one.
At the moment I have two, but there are reasons for that (AMEX cashback).

There are valid reasons for having more
e.g. my OH has a Nationwide one for foreign use, but it's not the best card for the UK.
Some people have a seperate one for business use.
So if you travel a lot and have business expenses then there can be an argument for more, but for you I'd say two should be the max.

How many cards MAXIMUM is it advisable to apply for at once (as too many searches give you a negative impact on your score)

Does it really give you a negative impact? or is it a myth?

Maximum advised to apply for at once = 1
Does it really give a negatiev impact = yes
Is it a myth = no

Depends what you want to achieve really, which nobody has a clue about despite your many posts :)

Remember, like many things in life, quality is better than quantity. If you just want a card for monthly spending, then you only need one good card ;)
