Definitely see if you qualify for the Sure Start £500 grant:

and if one of the following applies to you:
- you or your partner are pregnant and expecting a baby within 11 weeks or have given birth within the last three months
- you or your partner have adopted a child, or in certain circumstances have been granted a residence order for a child, within the last three months and the child is less than one year old
- you and your husband or wife have been granted a parental order for a surrogate birth within the last three months
- you or your partner are getting benefit for a dependant under the age of 20 who is pregnant and expecting a baby within 11 weeks or has given birth within the last three months
The term partner is used here to mean:
- a person you are married to or a person you live with as if you are married to them, or
- a civil partner or a person you live with as if you are civil partners Also speak to your midwife about getting the £190 Health in Pregnancy grant when you get to 25 weeks - neither of these grants effect any benefits
You should also speak to your midwife about getting the Health in Pregnancy grant - although everyone is entitled to this, midwives don't tend to voluteer the information (mine certainly didn't tell me about it so I missed our )You can now claim a one-off, tax-free payment from H M Revenue & Customs (HMRC) if you're a mum-to-be who's at least 25 weeks pregnant. The payment is called 'Health in Pregnancy Grant' and is to help you prepare for the birth of your baby.
Who can get Health in Pregnancy Grant?
You can get the grant if all of the following apply:- you are 25 weeks pregnant or more
- you have been given health advice from a midwife or doctor
- you are subject to immigration control or
- you are not present, ordinarily resident or have a right to reside in the UK
The grant will be a one-off payment of £190 for each pregnancy. It will not affect your tax credits or any other benefits. Everyone will get the same amount – you will not be asked about your income.
How do you claim?
Get a claim form from your midwife or doctor - as long as you're at least 25 weeks pregnant. Your midwife or doctor must fill in their part of the form and sign it before giving it to you.
You will need to get your claim form to HMRC within 31 days of your midwife or doctor signing the form - otherwise you may miss out on the grant.
You can get a free text message or email reminder to help you remember to claim if you are not 25 weeks pregnant yet.

How is the Grant paid?
HMRC will pay the grant directly into your bank or building society account. Don’t worry if you don't have an account - any bank or building society will help you open one.0 -
