Broken as well it needs a new cambelt and the quote so far is 600 but its knackered. We have no money what's so ever
We need a car for hubbies work and I just can't see a way out of this mess. We are in a dmp with payplan
But even if we can not pay them for a month its still no where near enough. I am 5 months pregnant and trying to
Save any money for the baby
we have saved about 140

sorry to hear about this.
Try looking on freecycle for a new tv.
is there no other way for your husband getting to work?
How much is the car worth? you may be able to get a small old car for around £250 with 6months tax/mot on autotrader or advertised locally.0 -
Awww hunni, no advice I'm afraid other than the suggestions above but just wanted to send you a big (((((((((hug)))))))).

I'm not an expert on DMPs, but I'm sure you can arange a new one with slightly lower payments if you have to revise your SOA.
Someone with more experience of this will be able to confirm I think.
Depending on the value of the car, it may be better - like previous post says - to buy a cheap run about, if it's taxed and MOTd all the better, as it will save you on that too. If your car really is knackered, you can still sell for spairs or repair, or even break it for spares, as you can make more that way than selling it whole. Ebay is great for that.
As for the TV, again Ebay, gumtree, freecycle, charity shops etc, you might not get a nice shiney flat screen, but hey a TV is a TV at the end of the day!0 -
Thanks for the replys. Hubbie works in another town so we have to have a car. At the absolute max
The car is worth 1000 so I'm hoping we can sell it and get a new car

Big hugs FF, I had a similar melt down in Jan when alll the wheels fell of and I became a basket case:o (it's what prompted me to face everything:)). I can't give any advice but just wanted to send support and say that you will get through it, we did:D, even though it seems impossible now I'm sure something will turn up.:A
Just a thought if you have a car boot bit in your local paper you can sometimes get really cheap runabouts in there, good luck.0 -
the other one for a TV is do you know anyone who can lend you one, even a 'spare' 14 inch CRT would do for the time being, i know personally i have at least 2 spare TV's in the loft, yes no remotes and no shiny bits but if something blows up it will give us the ability to last until we can save up for a new/bigger one
check auto trader for cars, make sure it has tax and mot but they are not many ones that i spoted quickly on a national search
2000 TOYOTA CAMRY 2.2 16V Sport 4dr Saloon - 5mth tax and mot £125
1998 PEUGEOT 106 1.1 Look2 5dr Special Editions - 5 months mot,6 months tax £195
1997 SKODA FELICIA 1.6 GLXi 5dr [D.Airbag] Hatchback - MOT NOV, taxed £249Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
I just wanted to give you a little bit of support. I know it sounds a little silly but try and stay strong hun. You need to take care of yourself physically and emotionally if you are with child (congratulations by the way).
As everyone else has said - if not already done so join your local freecycle (Freegle) group and keep an eye out. Although to put a wanted request on there you have to offer something first but this can be anything. From hats and shoes to a wooden spoon. But if you can find something to offer - even if no-one takes it, it will allow you to ask. I am sure if you ask for a working telly you will get some one offer one to you.
But you have a PC to, so you could use that. You can get all the major channels BBC1 2 & 3, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 on the PC so for know you can still sit and watch a bit of telly so you are not in an silent house. Or go and crash at your friends for a while, get out and share your problems with them, a problem shared as they say.
As far as the car goes, can he not car share with anyone at work. If he offered a little petrol towards the cost he might be able to find someone who works at a place close enough to get a lift, or try freecycle for a bike for him, at least the weather is getting a little nicer lol. Or you could google the options and find out if there is any public transport that could get him there, it might take him longer but it wont be for long.
The main thing is hunny that you will be fine, I know it may not seem like it now, but things do have a funny way of sorting themselves out.
In the meantime, you could spend the day sorting out any items in the house you dont use and sell them on ebay to raise a bit of money. It all helps and at least you will feel like you are doing something productive. I would call a friend or a family member and ask them to come and give you a hug cause it sounds like you need it. But you dont have to do it on your own x
Take care, I hope things work out for you.0 -
Sorry to hear you're having a bad time.
Just to advise a little bit on the DMP, I have one and they would look at lowering your payments if your SOA shows that you can't manage the current payments, however, the problem would be as to whether the creditors will be happy to accept the drop. A lot depends on how much the DMP is for per month. If it's for £500 per month say, you could probably get them to drop it by £50 without too much trouble but if it's only for less than £150, the amount they would agree to drop it by would hardly make any difference to your circumstances I suppose.
With or without the DMP changing, that is more a long term thing whereas you need the money now. As others have said, a cheap car is your only real option and in terms of the tv I would try a second hand shop (the one by us sells old ones for 30/40 quid). Not ideal but it will get you by until you can get something better.
In terms of the baby, have you checked whether you'll qualify for the surestart £500? We didn't  but it's worth a try. Don't forget aswell that once you have your 2nd child, you will get the extra Child Benefit + any tax credits or housing benefit will also go up. It would be worth going on the entitledto calculator and putting your circumstances in for after your baby is born and seeing what you will have coming in then (I do this all the time!)
Me and my wife had 2 children within 11 months and 18 months ago I was made redundant a month after my second child was born and we were living in a 1 bed flat with 2 kids under 1, no car, wife couldn't get a job and I was made redundant and life looked very very bleak but 18 months on and we both have jobs, live in a decent 2 bed house and saving for a car so keep your chin up and you'll be fine :beer:0 -
FF - just wanted to send you ((HUGS)). I know it all seems just too much right now, but things will work out, they really will.
I'm not into cars ither than driving one, but it seems you've had some advice on that above.
I'd certainly agree with the idea of trying freecycle for a TV - and on our local one we often have folks offering/requesting almost everything needed for a new baby too. Don't get depressed by all those places that tell you you need big bucks to provide for a baby - it can all be done very cheaply, even nowadays. Thing is, they grow so quickly that they never wear out little clothes so 2nd hand looks just as good as new! We recently acquired a pushchair for our DGD - it was certainly not new, but looks great!
Take care of yourself - things will get better.Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
thank you all for your lovely responses i guess hormones got the better of me today i have a friend coming out to look at the tv later today & im going to spend my sons nap time on autotrader. We could gather maybe 300 from bits from the house to sell so i will start that now!
What a bad start to the day x"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, but Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad."0
