This morning I am unable to connect to my wireless router. All was working last night.
I have a desktop PC which is hard wired into the netgear - all working ok.
I have a laptop which won't connect to my network - in fact it can't even see it.
I have a netbook which won't connect although it can see the network.
The wireless machines are within 10 feet of the router.
The router has all the usual lights on (It's a netgear dg834n)
I have rebooted the router and also restored it's settings.
The router does seem to have lost the access control list that only enables my lappy/netbook to connect. I have reinstated these settings to no avail.
Help please!!

Enable broadcast SSID and turn off MAC filtering for starters and see how you go. If you can connect after that and think these offer you extra protection (they do but it is minimal) turn off SSID again then save the MACs you wish to allow and turn filtering back on.0

You mention rebooting and restoring settings? Have you done a full restart - i.e., hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds to restore back to factory mode? This way, it will remove all previous settings (encryption, ssid, mac filtering, etc) and restore it to the "out of the box" state.
Unplug from your phone socket as well so you are just concentrating on connecting to your router.
Start by plugging the desktop machine in and connecting to the router. Then, try the laptop and then the netbook.
If you can connect on all of them (without adding encryption, security, filtering, etc), then gradually add settings to the router starting with encryption. Start with WEP, then WPA then WPA2.
Keep going until you are back to normal or the machines cannot connect. You should then find out what the problem is.
Is the router still under warranty?0 -
Thanks for the help.
It is a mystery but all of a sudden both machines suddenly connected without any further tinkering.
It was like the router suddenly woke it'self up.
Don't know what to make of it - could the router have been updating it'self. Also funny that both machines did a microsoft update - probably not related but just a coincidence.0 -
Just a thought but could something have been switched on that interfered with the signal?
My laptop wouldn`t connect to the netgear router when my wireless video sender was switched on but as soon as i turned it off it connected.
My new wireless box does similar but if the laptop is connected first then it usually stays connected, if the lappy tries to connect to the box and the video sender is already on it can`t see it.
Changing the channels makes no difference.

As a follow up I have checked the router settings for MAC address filtering and it has lost the MAC address for the netbook!!!!
Don't know what is occurring.0 -
I think you should follow the tip above about doing a full hardware reset then either restore your setting or put them back in manually. No real reason other than a gut feel as I too have no idea what is occurring.0
