laying a vinyl tile floor

Hi I want to lay a vinyl tile floor in my front hallway but have absolutely no idea where to start any advise please

unless your floor is perfectly flat, lay some plywood or mdf down first.
better still forget the whole thing and lay proper ceramic tiles down.

Yes lay a proper ceramic tile floor. If you have no idea where to start i suggest you get a DIY manual like Collins or Readers Digest and do some reading first.0

I'm considering laying vinyl tiles in my kitchen, I think ceramic tiles would make an already cold room even colder. I have a dog and a cat who tear round the place so don't think cushion floor would stand up to their claws, vinyl tiles seem tougher and I would have thought easier to lay if the room isn't a square or rectangle but has lots of bits that stick out.0
