In Firefox you can just click the RSS icon in the location bar to subscribe/get the address.

What are the benefits of using RSS feeds though? I have really never seen the point as to me it just seems as a less visual way to view what you all ready can see on the same web page....

For MSE I use them so I can quickly and easily see all new threads that have posted on my boards. Much easier than checking back over pages of new threads, and can be seen all at a glance without having to visit the site.

Other sites, I can subscribe and quickly check the list of new articles posted. Quicker and easier than visiting and trawling through each site.

My RSS reader can also notify me of new entries on a feed if I want it to. Very handy for knowing when a site that is not frequently updated has something new without having to manual visit and check.

    I use:

    http://www.kde.org/applications/internet/akregator/

Unfortunately that is for the Linux/KDE desktop, so if you are using Windows you would need to hunt for a good reader for that.

I don't like the Firefox feed integration myself....

There is probably a stand-alone RSS reader that you can download if you hunt around? Would be surprised if there wasn't, even on a mac.

no i am sure there is also but to have just a stand alone client to do that kinda defeats the point of my use for RSS as i don't want to be forced to use another app to do something simple in my browser if you can see my point?

    I can.

However, I have easily over 100 feed subscriptions. For me it is much easier to keep track of those in a separate application. Firefox feed integration becomes very very cumbersome with more than just a few.

Might be worth searching the firefox addons site though? I think there may be an extension that gives you much much more advanced feed handling?
