Hi guys,
Really dumb one here, what information do I need in order to do a HPI check? I was under the impression the registration may just suffice. Is there anything else required? If so, is the dealer likely to give me this info or do I have to go there and find out myself?
Last one - can police do free HPI checks? A few of my mates are in the old bill and I was hoping on saving a fair few quid
Cheers

The police would need a reason for doing it so no I would think they couldnt do it for you.
To do a HPI you need the reg and it will come up with the make model, last recorded mileage, how meny owners and if been in a crash or stolen etc0 -
So in order for me to do a HPI, i don't need any extra information other than the REG right?
I've been reading about VINs and am getting worried that I may need it.0 -
I did one recently and to get the full information you should supply the following:
VIN (chassis number)
To be supplied
V5 Registration Document serial numberTo be supplied
V5 Registration Document issue date To be supplied

And dont just give any old mileage as this spacks the system up a few years down the line if someone has entered/given a rough idea.0 -
You can use the VIN to compare it to the registered one as part of the check - if you're inspecting a car prior to buying it then it's not hard to get a hold of the VIN anyway (it's on the passenger side under the windscreen in most cars)0
