Twickenham/London Bank Holiday Weekend

Hi all wondering if you can help and give us some tips.
I'm going to the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final on 26th August (1 adult + 2 children aged 10 & 8)
I'm looking to make a weekend of it (kids have never been to London before) so I'm looking for 'REALLY' cheap accommodation for 3 nights plus cheap return travel to London from either St.Helens, Runcorn or Liverpool Lime Street.
All help will be very much appreciated.
