Preowned Games?

Options
Hi guys,

As an avid gamer I tend to spend far too much money everything month feeding my habit lol!! I now need to save as much money as possible and wanted to know everyones thoughts on preowned games. I've never bought a preowned game before and just really wanted to know if many people buy them and whether or not they ever have any problems?

Also where is the best place to buy them?

Thanks

Since we object to the extortionate prices of the games we seldom buy them new unless they are reduced in price. Both my sons have bought second-hand games on the internet (eBay or Amazon) and also from Game. We have very occasionally had trouble with one sticking a bit, but a good clean with the machine they have in Game usually solves that (3 cleaned/repaired for £5).

Do you re-cycle yours through Game when you have finished playing them? It seems that many of the fairly new games trade-in for a fairly high amount as long as they are complete with manuals and so forth so that might also be a way of off-setting some of the costs.

I always try to buy preowned if I can as you can make a huge saving from the RRP.

I have bought preowned games for PS1 & 2, Wii, Gamecube, N64, XBox 360, PC and all the oldies from eBay, CEX, Game, Gamestation, etc. and I have really never had a problem - yes, the manual or box is sometimes a bit bashed up but if the game doesn't work you can take it back.

Generally although there might be some surface scratches on the CD this rarely affects gameplay.

I would say definitely go for it - you will save yourself a lot of money and it makes no difference to the actual gameplay!

    Hope that helps

Also worth mentioning that you can hire them from libraries (a week at a time) and also on-line rental sites. Recently signed up with Tesco's dvd/game package and all 4 wii games received so have been fine.

We've always bought pre-owned and never had a problem, if there is it's easy to take the product back. There's a 1 year guarantee on hardware at Cex, not sure about games but think there might be. Gamestation are good as well and, if you're trading in a game, offer £1 extra on the credit voucher option if they are undersold.

    Cheers guys!!

I actually collect all my games, but as space is running out and the fact that my girlfriend is at boiling point...I am thinking things over lol.

I appreciate the advice. One thing though, where's the best place to trade in online?

You can buy the games at CEX and then trade them in when you have finished for cash or a voucher. You get a better deal if you request a voucher and you can then use it to purchase another game.

I often get DVD's from CEX and havent ever had a problem.
