As the title says, my laptop keeps switching itself off and I have no idea why. It is nothing to do with the battery as it is showing as being fully charged. And it will happen either when I am using it or when it is idle. Any ideas?

Is this when you are operating on battery or mains power?
Have you checked your power settings in the Control Panel? Could it be that your settings have been changed so that your laptop is set to go into hibernation/shut down after a short period of time?0 -
more likely to be heat related

I had the same problem with my toshiba lap top and at first i though it is due to virus so I reload the windos but problem still there then after few days I accidently inverted the laptop then I found that the ventilation holes completely blooked by dust ( as i never clean my laptop) and after I cleaned it the problem solved. so it was due to overheat because processor will switsh it self if it reached certain degree.0 -
Mine has been occasionally switching itself off recently - must be time to blow the vents with an airline again - this usually does the trick.0
