Strip gloss off door

My wife has decided that the (internal) doors will look better and be more child proof, if we varnish them, however they have about 3 layers of gloss on them.

Ive been stripping one since yesterday with a heat gun and paint stripper and its getting there but its extremely hard work - has anyone got any tips (cant get to anywhere to have them dipped).
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Sorry CIS but elbow grease is the answer. Hot air gun to remove the top layers and Nitromors with wire wool (and protective gloves for you) for the finishing bit. Small scrappers also a good idea. I have stripped all my internal doors (9 in total) and I am somehow experienced on the subject. Mind, the result is astonishing ......after a few months. Used the old fingerplates (stripped back to a lovely shine) and bought some nice handles on Ebay. I did not varnish the finish work but just waxed it the old way.
    Quite happy with the results.

I did ours out doors and as Mr Warren say's lots of elbow grease. Also did hotair gun followed by lots of Nitromors - found laying door horizontal meant that I could really flood the surface followed by a good wash after. Good ventilation also!

I have the same problem. However, I discovered when I talked to work colleagues it depends on the wattage of the gun. I waas using a 1250 W which was pants, but bought a 2000w gun (from Screwfix.com) for £20, a Titan model and can vouch its the business. I does at least 3 layers of paint and varnish in clean easy strips.

I have tried all the other methods and have the chemical burns to prove it.
