Nikon Cameras - Advice needed

Am looking to buy a decent camera this week that takes good shots, and also short movies. Have managed to whittle my search down to Nikon. Can anyone recommend a particular model? I would like to spend up to £180. I don't quite know what the difference is between the S series, L series and Coolpix models.
Is there a site where I can view them side by side, what is the difference between the models, and can anyone offer any further advice?!

the buyers guide on http://www.dpreview.com/ allows you to compaire side by side
As to which one to buy buy what you want you had a reason to chose Nikon for some reason. The diference I see between the L and S are the physical dimensions the S seem more compact and dont have a lense that retracts0 -
