Am I already late?

This year I was planning on growing from seed. Usually I buy small plants from the garden centre, but fancied a bash at doing it all myself.

I'm planning on runner/french beans (usually I do these from seed, but plant direct outside in late May or June)

Pumpkins from seed
Toms from seed
Peppers from seed
Sweetcorn from seed
Peas from seed (imagine they could be similar to beans so planted later?)

I was hoping to order a little mini greenhouse type thing, but funds not available til beginning of this month, and there's a "up to 28 days" delivery:eek:

Am I going to be too late? I see lots of people are already talking about seedlings, pricking out etc

Having not done seeds before, I don't tend to think about it til the good weather properly sets in!

    start them off indoors
a plastic greenhouse wouldnt really protect from a heavy frost just now anyway

i just planted my tomatoes chillies & pepper seeds at the weekend
they are indoors, and wont be going out for a good while yet

Ok, I can do that, all the things I mentioned (plus courgettes which I forgot) apart from the beans, should I start now-ish?
  • I'd start your tomatoes and peppers now indoors.

Not sure about sweetcorn but all the others will be better if you wait a while anyway

you are not too late at all!! Spring is late this year, a lot are waiting until April. It also depends where in the country you are as to when you start.

Generally pumpkins you start in April.

Toms start now on your windowsill or propagater.

    Peppers as per toms above.

Sweetcorn don't sow in pots until mid april.

Peas start now, but do 10 or so then a couple of weeks later do 10 more, 2 weeks later.....etc

The only things i have sown (and it was only cos i got really impatient to be doing SOMETHING!) :o are toms and cucumbers. I have LOADS more to do.... apparently patience is a virtue!:A (yeah right!!)

I am still waiting , at least another two weeks . Its Easter week end , will have more time.
Have bought the seed , but any delay now will very easily be caught up .
But one frost , will kill , so you would have to start again.

Ok, so the general consensus is peppers, toms and peas sow now or soon, but I have a wee while yet before the rest.

    Sounds good.

    Cheers all.
