HSBC cancelled my DD

Well after 8 happy years HSBC have finally let me down. I pay my O2 phone bill monthly by DD and set it up well over a month ago. I checked on the 22nd of Feb when the first payment was suposed to come out, and it had, all good i assumed.
I looked at my dd and SO's the other day and it was only showing my other 3 in the section. On further investigation I found my O2 one in the old DD's section with the status cancelled. I rang HSBC and they said O2 had cancelled it. I then rang O2 and they said they haddnt. I asked what to do and they said they couldnt see why it wouldnt come out at normal on the 22nd march ( i hovever couldnt see why it would) and to wait and see. It hasnt (obviously) come out but they still need a 24 hour period for it to be declined before they will do anything about it.
I will call them tomorrow and try and pay on debitcard but i want to know why this DD was cancelled in the first place. Seems to be a HSBC error as O2 wouldnt close the payment. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I would be blaming O2 more than HSBC at the moment. What reason would the bank have to close the DD for? Never heard of this happening before :eek:0

Businesses can't cancel a customers direct debit. They can stop taking payments at their end, but can't cancel the DDM. They do not have the authority to do so.0

I believe that AUDDIS actually does incorporate a function whereby the originator (the compnay you are paying) can notify the bank that the DD is inactive/no longer required and is thus cancelled.
The bank reason code will show "Cancelled by originator" when they check.43580 -

Spot on. Or will show "Cancelled via AUDDIS".Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -

Ah right thanks for that. That would be for when the payments had come to an end then I assume.0
