my choc labrador has been to the vets today for her annual booster, she suffers with skin allegies, which sometimes flares up in her ears, and on her skin. the vet said to get some ear drops just to keep them clean and wax free, also stop the smell, when it flares up, does anyone have any recommendations? thanks

this product is good as it also is in single use vials, so less likely to breed bacteria on the tip of the bottle0 -
Hi
My German Shepherd suffers with ear problems, the vet suggested Epi -Otic ear cleanser made by Virbac Animal Health. We got from them not sure if it can be sorced elsewhere, it has been great for cleaning wax out deep down, she has now stopped shaking her head due to the itiching.
Hope this helps.W/R 17pRoadkill #56 £0.47

Im surprised he didnt sell you something. One of mine gets it too and one vet tells me its an infection, the other that its his dermatitis (in the same practice). I tend to think its his allergies - he suffers from skin allergies, particularly in hot weather, as its always the same ear, the one he sleeps on and lies on - so I think its the sweatiness/ dampness but the vets have given me all sorts in the past including antibiotics and drops for it.
This last time he started to shake his head I got some herbal stuff. Didnt think it would work but then had nothing to lose as the stuff from the vet takes weeks to help anyway. Well, next day ear no longer red and no head shaking. Fingers crossed, no problems with it for about 4 months now.

My oldest suffered with an ear infection for over a year, in the end after countless antibiotics, 2 ear flushes and lots of different ear washes we had her allergy tested and turns out she was allergic to one of the bacteria which live on a dogs body but she'd scratched herself, then scratched in her ear and it wouldn't go away. Anyway, a specific anti-biotic and a special shampoo cleared it up. She was also allergic to lamb, beef and pork which is a bit of a nightmare but thankfully found some food which suited her. Touch wood, we haven't had any problems for ages.0

thanks for the replies, my dog has been suffering with skin problems since she was a puppy, tried loads of different stuff, neturing, diet change, bedding change, injections still gets flare ups on her legs and belly, but has since moved to the ears, dry flaking skin with a yeast smell, does not seem to cause her any problems, just the smell in the ears, the vet has recommended human antihistamines, in a child dose, see how that goes.0

bluecatblue, please go to that link I gave as my dogs both had skin allergies. The little Border terrier came to us covered in bald patches and scratching and chewing til he bled. Vet bunged him on steroids but I really dont like those - was recommneded dermactron by a rescue where they have a lot of westies with bad skin conditions and honestly its brilliant stuff. (have a look at the photos on that site, bona fide ones from rescues) I get the bars of soap shampoo for my dog and he hardly scratched at all this year, even in the hottest weather.
I got the ear drops from them as I was fed up with the vets chopping and changing their minds about his ear problem and again, Im gobsmacked that a couple of days of the drops stopped the head shaking and redness. Its 100% money back guaranteed, so you cant lose anything trying it.
Ive recommended it to several people, including some on here and every one of them has said its made a huge difference. One lady I met over the park with her dog who has been on steroids since he was 6 months old for allergies had a go with the dermactron soap and spray and he too is now off steroids (after 3 years of them!!). Have a go anyway and let us know how you get on with it.

I use the old fashioned Thornit powder, it always work ok for us. I also treat the feet with a bit as wll as the ears.
