Dell laptop?

How quickly do they tend to ship their laptops that aren't advertised as 48 hours?
What significant differences are there between these two to justify an extra £100?

Thanks, I had seen all that.
I was hoping for a techie to numptie translation.
For example I haven't a clue on the difference between i3 and i5.
What difference 3 to 4 RAM makes ( actually those are both 3 I've been looking at too many).......that kinda thing.0 -
about 14-21 days if they have to build it and ship from china,Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

One has a slightly faster processor, a bit more space on the hard drive and bluetooth.
Bluetooth can be added by USB later for about £2
70GB isn't very much in the grand scheme of things, you can always add external portable USB drives
the processor you'd need to look up on a benchmarking site, is probably a 'bit' faster but probably not hugely so
EDIT the 430 is roughly 25% faster/more powerful than the 3300 -
Thank you both. Hard drive capacity and bluetooth not too important to me.
I suppose I just want it to be reasonably fast even though I don't do anything too laborious. Might have several applications on the go at the same time but that's about it.
The other thing that confused me was some of the Dell laptops highlighted HDMI as a feature and yet when I looked at the spec, they all mention HDMI port. I would like to sometimes connect to TV in living room via HDMI. That is standard nowadays, right?
Wireless 802.11 b/g........ something about upgrade to n. I just have a fairly old netgear router so would b/g be sufficient?0 -

I'm 90% sure they will both have it, you could always phone up dell and ask if you need to be 100%. OHs laptop has HDMI and that dates back to 2007, I imagine it'll be pretty standard by now yes.
Wireless b/g will be fine for now, anything N will be backward compatible, if you're really reallly fussed about that bit extra wireless network speed you can but a wireless N mini card in future for about £30, but both will only be as fast as your internet connection unless your're needing to move things quickly, wirelessly within your own house.0 -
Thanks again.
Ok, don't know if it's just a sales tactic but offers seem to end today.
This one is available within 48hours ( although I could wait the 2-3 weeks ).
It says it was £613 now £499 so I feel as though I might be getting better value for money but looking for you guys to confirm.
How does the processor and memory compare to the first two I mentioned in this thread?

yes dell always do that, but a week or two after the last one ends there is always another offer.
Around xmas/january you could pickup a reasonable one for £350odd so they don't seem the best Dell deals I've seen recently.
Don't forget to use cashback sites/discount codes if you can....
I hear http://www.dmxdimension.com/ usually has good deals on new Dells too0 -

You have 1GB more RAM but it is old DDR2 stuff so slower AND a generation behind the DDR3 in the first two.
The processor is also slower, its about the same difference between first two slower than the slowest one you first linked to.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
CPU #Mark index scores (higher is better)
T4400 = 1569
i3-330M= 2034
i5-430M= 2425
I wouldn't go for the 3rd/T4400 one0 -
Ok, thanks a lot. Just been looking at the link you gave. The prices look the same and link straight back to Dell so may as well go direct via quidco and get 7% off.
Thanks for all this info on processors/memory. That's what lets me down totally and don't want to throw away money.0
