My Sony VAIO laptop, which in theory should run nicely with a 2.4GB P4 and 512DDR is dying! I have very recently rebooted it due to errors, slowness and the fact that it refused to shut down!? A virus seems possilbe although I have a full version on NAV04 installed and running fine. I opened task manager to check the processes all seemed necessary (not that I know exactly what should be running and something called SVCHOST.EXE appears 3-4 times and is apparantly using 90-99% of CPU.
My question is simply; does this sound normal? Or is my computer infact infected with some sort of virus no anti-virus program would pick up?
Thankyou for your time, Sam

I have the same problem just now with main pc and i too am running nortons but 2005, one problem i had was that if sending mail with attatchments it timed out and i phoned telewest to see if they maybe had problems and it turned out it was the firewall and when i shut it off the mail went so i think somehow nortons may be to blame as i have 1 mb broadband and inter is like haveing a 56k modem or slower. Updated both antivirus and adaware and both scans showed nothing. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Do a check for scumware / spyware using several of the freely available pieces of software.0

Be very wary about deleting anything with svchost.exeOr very similar) as there are virusses out there which replicate the name and it is extremely easy to delete an essential one. After running Spybot, Adaware and your virus scannerand assuming a problem is still there, run a HiJack this scan and post it on one of the appropriate sites.http://forum.misec.net/board/Trojans/1083505568
