Claim still on hold at Court now in Hardship

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping that someone can help with my on-going HSBC claim. I've searched and searched for days through all the threads and can't find anything definitive. I'll give a little background and see what everyone thinks.
I submitted a claim for bank charges for a closed account with HSBC in March 2007. This went on with letters going backwards and forwards, and eventually on 30 March 2007 I entered a claim with MCO. Everything was plodding along at court until the court case came along and the case was stayed. The amount of the claim was £3751 + £1211 interest totalling £4962.
Last December I received a letter from HSBC instructing they would be writing to me again with regard to my claim. Since then I've heard nothing.
Now to present day..... my situation at home has changed and I'm struggling to meet bills, mortgage, loans etc. What should be my course of action?
Should I try and speak to HSBC regarding financial hardship as payments are bouncing etc(not with HSBC though)?
or should I pursue this through the court?
Thanks for help in advance
