Converting to DivX - easily and quickly - help please

Hi - have just got a new netbook and would like to take it on holiday and watch movies on it on plane etc. I am just wondering if it is easy to convert my dvds to divx files and watch them from the harddrive?
The netbook has no optical drive but 160GB HD.

I would like a simple kind of 1 click solution where it just turns the original dvd into a divx size file. Or is it not that simple?

I have experience with other ripping like Shrink Decrypt etc - just not converting to DivX
Any help greatly appreciated - thanks

you can using a reencode engine thats not a prob what you havent counted on is say a 2hr film etc will take a about 1hr to re encode after you have ripped it with what ever and that is based on a normal computer not a underpowered netbook processor doing it either. so to change this all over will take a long time and there is no real short cut that i'm aware off!

Might as well just rip the vob files to your HD and play that way. Assume 4gb / per film, and say use 100gb space, thats 25 films. How long is the flight?!

But as for ripping, dvd shrink or mainly flaskmpeg is one I used to use 'back in the day' with 20gb HD's.

It's just as illegally torrenting a film you own as one you don't. You have to remember that when downloading a torrent, you are also sharing any pieces of the file you've received.

I found Handbrake good for ripping DVDs, I think it does DivX, if not it does similar formats, so you should be able to watch them on your netbook.

Torrents are a bad idea too as its dead easy for 'the authorities' to find out who/what is downloading / sharing from your IP address (which is how those lawyers have managed to send out all those letters taking people to court). Far better, safer and quicker ways out there to download.
