Baby with the runs!

Already posted about my sleeping problems with my 7 month old but need help with something else so starting a new post!

He now has the runs, had 4 dirty nappies in the night and went through 2 changes of pj bottoms as it was so wattery it was coming out the sides of the nappies. And since 8am this morning I have just changed his 6th nappy.
Is there anything that could help? Or just let nature take its course and leave it and hopefully it should stop soon.
Does anybody know the cause of it? He hasnt had anything different the past few weeks that he hasnt had before. Is it just a bug that he has possibly caught, as he has a cold just now also with a snotty nose.

Thanks :)

Medical advise is not allowed on the forums. I would suggest you call doctor or health visitor for advice.

Personally i would pop to the doctors with him he may need some dyoralite or something similair to replace his body salts otherwise just make sure he is getting plenty of clear fluids so he doesnt get dehydrated. Its probably just a bug but always best to get it checked out in a young one :-)

There's a tummy bug going around at the moment. I'd take LO to the docs if you're worried as you're not supposed to ask for medical advice on MSE.

I would give NHS direct a call or get an appointment with the Doctors as soon as possible. They can then give you some proper advice.

However it sounds as if he does have a bug rather than just teething, as it sounds very much like what my husband has just had. Thankfully he didn't pass it onto the kids as the youngest was only 6 weeks and we would have ended up in hospital:( It could be something like the norovirus or some other stomach bug that is doing the rounds.

There is nothing you can give a child to stop it, and nor would you want to as the bug needs to get out of his system, just make sure he is still drinking lots. Be scrupulous on the cleanliness side so that the whole family doesn't get infected - you won't be too much help to him if you also get it.

Good luck and I hope he gets better really soon, it's horrible when they are ill, especially with something horrible like this, you feel so sorry for them.

Take him to the doctor and while you're waiting for the appointment have a think about who he's socialised with and what he's eaten over the last couple of days. At 7 months you're presumably weaning as well so there are quite a few possible causes.
