I have a smell from my boiler of very strong TCP. Now the hot water is no longer working - who should i call? gas people, plumber?

Is this dangerous?

TCP smell is usually a circuit board overheating so one of the circuits has probably burnt out.

Switch it off first. Then call a central heating engineer (not the same thing as a plumber).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

As previous poster says it is most likely the PCB (printed circuit board) burning out.
A customer of ours had exactly the same problem last week (TCP smell) and it was the PCB which we replaced. Depending on the boiler it could be expensive though!
Definitely call out a recommend GasSafe engineer - not plumber.
  • quick update:

got home and unscrewed the front of the boiler. The mains light was off an looked like no power going to boiler. Looked inside and the modulator board is all black and burnt in one corner. turned off the elec and gas to it so nothing should get worse.

Anyone know how much this is likely to cost (or any decent gas engineers in Leeds?)

I'm just glad it didnt cause a fire - looks really badly burnt.
