It has been about 4 weeks now. I rang on or around the 7th June when a colleague mentioned it in the office. That's when I first started reading the PPI section of these forums and found that I should have sent a letter. It would seem my phone call has however got me to the same interim situation as others but just don't know if I should give them another 4 weeks.

    hello

Just an update. Rang FOS who confirmed that unfortunately I am not covered by them as I am in Guernsey and to write to our local regulator. I have spoken to the regulater here and they have confirmed they will investigate complaints, however they are unable to act as mediators, they will ensure complaint is investigated thoroughly but they will not order any institution to pay compensation. Which is a bit of a bummer!

Where I'm at with HSBC, during the past 2 weeks I have called them twice, first I was advised the person dealing with my complaint would call back. She didn't (no surprises!!). Second phone call was to complain they hadn't called me back and again during this call I went over the reasons I was missold the PPI etc and the HSBC woman assured me I would receive a response to the second letter I had sent (which had stated I wasn't happy with their first response to my complaint!) by the end of last week.
It is now Tuesday and no reply. Should I keep on at them? Or just go ahead and write to the Guernsey regulator, explaining the situation at the time of taking out the loan, that incorrect info was given to me, staff not adequately trained and the rest of it? And copy in HSBC?
Or write back to HSBC advising (again) I will be speaking to GFSC and my lawyer?? Not really keen on going down the lawyer route though...

Any advice would be much appreciated, as I am a bit stuck with what to do right now :(

    Hi there

Sorry to hear this, but yes write to them again, chase them up, is there a free phone number you can call them at perhaps?
If so ask them for an update on this.

If they do not confirm anything then maybe it would be best to deal with this through the stated regulator.

Hopefully someone else may have some further ideas on this one for you, but keep at them with this and the best of luck.;)

  • Got a response in the post today, they are still not supporting my complaint. They have completely ignored the points I raised in the initial complaint, which is the main reason I believed I was mis sold the PPI. In all of the correspondence I have had with them they have not brought it up, or tried to explain it once. And they have also not dealt with the issue of me wanting to cancel the PPI going forward. All they have done is twisted what I have said and brushed over the actual issues.

To be honest I am really angry with HSBC!!

My gut feeling is that they know full well that the local regulator, does not act as a mediator and will not order institutions to pay compensation. So they think they can get away with it!! Which is just cheeky!

However, I will be writing back to them to advise that I will be taking this to the regulator because A) I feel they have not dealt with my complaint adequately and B) I shall point out the issue's which occured when I first took out the loan & PPI. I shall also point out that I am fully aware (due to my line of work) what the local rules and regulations are in respect of adequate training of staff etc and I think the regualtor will take a dim view in light of what has happened and that my complaint has not been properly handled and investigated.
I will also tell them I will be instructing my lawyers to take matters further.

However, do you think I should I give them time to respond? Maybe the threat of court action will get them to think again?

I am so annoyed!!!!!!!!! (Have I said that already?!)
    Sorry rant over!

Hi there, i think you have given them long enough, get in touch with the regulator and if you get a reply from bank that is a bonus, at least you will have put your complaint in to regulator now rather than later.By the way dont threaten lawyers as the bank will not care about this, they think they are in the right!! also you will have to follow through with this if you get no joy, so keep the lawyer up your sleeve for now xx good luck with this and keep us posted.

Thanks for your advise amersall. I will contact the regulator then and see where it gets me, if anywhere. I'll keep my fingers crossed but to be honest I am beginning to give up hope but I will continue to fight my little corner for the time being!
There's not really much else I can do but I will let you know how it goes.

thanks for all your help x

Hi pleasehelp, yes keep on at them here. I agree with amersall here.

Give them your own timescale and of course there is no harm in mentioning the courts as well, it may make them think again, fingers crossed.;)
