I have been sent my 3yr bill for £50 sentinel to cover credit card theft and documents ,it seems a bit steep im an oap dont travel a lot and have never had them stolen in the past always a first time you say ,but is there a cheaper way or do I need it at all,help please.

    Personally, I don't have it. I work on the assumption that if (say) my purse was stolen, I'd actually feel better getting in touch with my card companies myself as I'd know it had been done 'properly' rather than letting someone else do it for me. I realise not everyone feels the same way.

    I would expect that the £50 would be a standard fee, not specific to you or based on your circumstances.

    I assume you are not planning to be negligent? If so you are covered if your cards are lost anyway (subject to a minimum) so it may be worth checking what they actually cover that you don't get anyway?

    Please be very careful with Sentinel. I recently had someone clone my husband's debit card so I made a claim to Sentinel who are supposed to cover against fraudulent use of our cards and they refused to pay out even though there is no mention of them not covering cloned cards in their literature.

    I think that if you keep your own card details with you on holiday so that you can ring the companies concerned straight away then it is probably better to do that - and cheaper too.
