Can the bank charge me for this??

I used to have a Cahoot flexible loan account and got an email one day last year to say that they had closed it as the balance had been 0 for a year. Unfortunately I did not print off all my bank statements before they closed it and they have now said they will charge me £5 per statement copy (i need over a years worth). Are they able to do this seeing as i wasn't given any notice they would take my access and ability to print statements away?

yes they can, so with that in mind, you might like to consider having it reopened so that you can do it yourself over the internet.0

...or, if that's not possible, make a 'subject access request' (SAR) and get the lot for a tenner?0

Fantastic idea, thank you!0 -
I also had a credit card with them, do you know if I can ask for those statements too in the same SAR? Or will I have to pay twice?0

an SAR requires them to give you *all* information they hold about you, the credit card would hence be part of it.
the one concern I have however is what exactly classifies as information about you, technically speaking they could argue that your transactions aren't information about "you" and hence you might just end up getting a slip with your name, DOB, address and any other relevant identity info - give the CAB a call and find out.0 -
The SAR argument worked with Egg. I got 7 years of statements for a tenner. (Would have cost £420 at £5/statement!)Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
