Microphone help for minidisc recording

I have a sharp Minidisc player and was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent microphone for it. I need to record a concert and the minidisc player will be at the back away from the speakers etc. My other alternative is to record via my Creative Vision:M MP3 player but I'm not convinced the sound quality will be as good.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is this a school concert where you have permission to record, if so, can't you ask the organisers for a direct feed?

If it is a pop concert, you'll need a small one, or they might throw you out. Maplin sell a good range.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

    Hi Kido,

As albertross says you should really try and get a direct feed from the master channel of the mixer at the concert. This will give you the quality that you would need and maintain the different instruments as they will probably be on individual channels and by taking a feed off of the master output channel you will get the concert already mixed and with a good sound instead of having a loud static burst and not being able to distinguish between instruments or vocals.

You will probably need either an XLR - stereo minijack (it should have two rings on the tip) or a quarter inch jack - stereo minijack - best check and see what outputs are spare on the back of the desk first tho.

    Hope this helps.

    cheers

Sorry, should have made it clear. It's a brass ensemble concert I'm wanting to record there fore there will be no equiptment to hook it upto.

As I am playing in the ensemble and there will not be much room I was hoping just to be able to use a mic with my minidisc recorder.

    Thanks for your help.
