By signing up with voipcheap.co.uk you get completely free calls to UK landlines and to a host of other countries BUT you have to buy credit for chargable calls and you are resticted to calling from a USB phone or a headset connected to your computer. If you prefer the freedom of a chordless phone they do offer to connect your call at their rates (i.e. 0p/min in many cases) via your landline phone but with an addittional 3p connection charge.

HOWEVER, on the voipcheap.co.uk homepage there is (currently) the facility to make a call via your ordinary phone *completely* free - no need to sign-up, log-in or buy any credit. All you have to do is type the number of your landline phone in one box and the destination number in another box, then click "call". Your landline phone rings and when you pick up you are then connected to the number you are calling. No idea how long this option will be available - make the most of it!
