Do you think there is a lot of waste in the system?

The trouble with a poll like this is it's too general. My wife has two part time nursing jobs, one in the private sector and one in the public sector. She works incredibly hard in her public sector job, but the private sector one is much easier.
Regardless of this I still feel way more money is wasted in the public sector, but please remember not to judge all public sector jobs in the same way.0 -
interesting not much in it

Probably is but how much is down to each of:
Large organisations being intrinsinsically less efficient than small ones
Workers being generally gash/lazy/useless/unincentivised to improve effeciency (by either carrot or stick
)
Political interference (if Tescos kept having the" minister of groceries" telling them to do something based on headlines/opinion polls how would they be doing?)
Having to do stuff thats generally ineffecient (eg Tescos, again, only build a store and choose their product range where they can make money. The gov has to provide all services nationwide)0 -
I can't help thinking that I never seen anything like it, I know it's the NHS and it is an important service but last week we were told that we MUST spend £300K on IT equipment by the end of March otherwise this money will be 'wasted' ie go back to the gov.
So without planning or long term thinking we are just buying buying and buying :eek:
We have containers of stuff that replace stuff that works fine and we never going to use.:mad: we can't spend it on anything else (training maybe or more professional staff) just hardware. madFive exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

There is a lot of waste in the private sector in my opinion. Where I work in the public sector I was refused a claim for a £1.80 sandwich on expenses when out of town and working until 9pm. 'No food' (the travel was paid, so it wasn't like I was just claiming a piddly amount at the same time.
When I was in the private sector, I was told I hadn't claimed enough wine in the hotel I was staying in on expenses and would make the rest of the staff look bad. It was £18 quid a pop, so I had one with a nice dinner on expenses the next day!!
It's not good to generalise I guess would be the message, there are efficient public sector and private sector organisations.0 -

This exemplifies everythig that is wrong about the public sector.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

In DH's experience ths sort of thing has slimmed down a lot over last couple of years. His supper budget is up to £25. I think to have a decent meal delivered to you in the office while you work (for no extra money) is fair enough. DH is aware of some chancers who try and order their lunch as well out of that....but knows its also being cracked down on.0
