Virgin CC

I 'apparently' have missed a payment on my card. I admit it was late in the month, but im sure the payment request was sent previous to the deadline. I'm now being charged their standard monthly interest charges - however I've checked my credit report and nothing has been flagged as a missed payment.

Now im not sure whats going on. Do I challenge them and ask for the extra charges to be refunded and the 0% rate re-instated or risk them adding a missed payment to my credit file?

I would suggest checking when you sent it. Then seeing how many days Virgin state to allow it to arrive - this will be on your statement. Then see if it arrived in time.

It doesn't matter when you sent it, but when they received it.

It sounds like you 'actually' missed the payment.

I wouldn't suggested challenging them, but asking nicely to reinstate the 0%.

Also, most card providers don't instantly update the credit reference agencies - some do it in batches for example so you may not have got away without a late payment marker yet.

    How did you pay it?

Payment logged with Virgin on the 19th, Late Payment Charge on 21st, Payment clears on 23rd... is that going to be enough to sweet talk the 0% back?

Through Virgin's website via debit card.

If you ask nicely, and agree to set up a DD to avoid this in the future, then it's likely they'll reinstate it.

It will be at the discretion of the person you speak to as far as I can gather.

They usually are pretty clear about how far in advance you should make your payment. What day was your payment due? If you made your payment on the 19th and the default charge was on the 21st presumably the due date was either 20th or 21st.

Are you aware that the "due date" is not the last date that you can make a debit card payment, it is the date the payment must have cleared by?

I dont remember the date that was displayed, although the next month it seemed to be highlighted for me...

I'll give them a ring in the morning. Thanks for the help guys!

Worth a try, but you really ought to have contacted them when you first realised your payment was going to be late. After all, you knew it would be when you initiated your payment didn't you?...

    Pay by Debit Card online

Payments taken before 5pm, Monday to Friday, will be credited to your credit card account in 2 business days.

Payments made after 5pm or on weekends or bank holidays will be credited to your account in 3 business days.

Payments made after 2:30pm on the last day of each month will take an extra day to be credited to your account.

In all cases, you will see your payment in Online Banking the day after it is credited to your account.
