You all make valid points, I did suggest a retapping to the service rep (I'm an aircraft techie so know a bit about mechanics) but he said they only do replacements.
In which case they're clearly incompetent, and you should remind them of this.
There's no need to replace a perfectly good piece of metal for such a minor problem.
Remind them that they're the only garage who has serviced your car, that they damaged it, and that you expect them to repair it. If they do not, you will take the vehicle elsewhere, have it repaired properly, and then bill them for the difference. Any refusal to pay that bill and you'll be off to court.0 -

I think he’s saying if you put the wrong size helicoil in then the standard plug won’t fit.

theres mobile guys that go around all day fitting helicoil or similar , they could get it done for cheap0
