  • Isn't it Freedom of Information Act anyway? Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong - & you might have to pay.

I am be wrong, but do not think it would fall under FOI

Under Data Protection you can request ALL info they hold under your name

And as your employer paid for the eye test I would expect it is information that has been paid for?

the only time an opticians must supply the pd is when glasses have been purchased from them and the prescription in them is in date i.e. the glasses are less than 2 years old if that is your recommended recall period and i wouldnt recommend doing it diy i do this for a job and is not as easy as just dottin up and if you get it wrong it can cause probs. Oh and if you wish to recieve copys of your written records you have to do it in writtin to head office and they are alloud to charge you its a medical record so simular to docs.

Just coming back to this, when I did get my eyes tested a couple of years after I measured my own PD, I asked the bloke fitting me and he said my own measurement had been spot on (if you'll pardon the pun).

It's a ruse to get you to buy overpriced spectacles.

Some opticians will leave the PD figure off of the prescriptions because they want you to buy the glasses from them, they should not refuse to give you this figure if you ask for it,I had a similar request begrudgingly given to me by D&A on my last eye test with them, (and it will be the last)

the PD measurement is part of the dispensing process and not part of the eyesight test (ie is not part of the prescription) if you take your prescription to the next optician on the high street they will measure the PD before you order your glasses, as the origional optician would have if you ordered from them.... if you order online that is your problem as tecnically it the responsability of the dispensing company to take the measurement!!

  • Its a HUGE shame - having trolled through every optician on my high street, I had to take my PD measurement myself!
  • so you expect all these professional services for free and then buy your spex eleswhere? How bout all these high street opticians go bust and put thousands out of a job. And eye tests cost what they are really worth, about 100£.

It's only free to the employee. The optician has been paid for the test by the employer, so how are they losing out?
  • I have had customers who come to us for a free eyetest (got a voucher from the internet) bought their glasses online and then bring them in expecting to get them fitted or repaired!
  • we generally get 15£ for a corporate eyetest, and do them in the hopes that the customers will buy glasses from us as well.
