More Blair Oliver Advice

Hi there,

First off thanks for accepting my registration.

I have had the misfortune of wage reduction for a year now, and as a result debts got out of hand ..... I have mainly got most paying now on a payment schedule until wages go back to normal so thankfully the wolves are circling but not at my door yet.

Blair Oliver & Scott however are the biggest pain in my rear. Constant telephone calls starting 8am through the day (call logger on phone) and up to 8pm in the evening, which I ignore at all times as I wrote to them and said by letter only will I communicate.

Now I have a debt which was at £1000, but by paying a regular amount, I am not at £868 and agreed to a £25 per month payment, which I have been making.

Today I got a letter for a "review" and after calling them to tell them that i would continue, got the most ignorant woman, who basically wouldnt accept my £25 per month, and that they wanted an increase to £30 a month or they would start adding interest and sell the debt. I said that I couldnt and wouldnt increase the payment and would request a copy of the CCA to put the account into dispute, she said fine she would request that for me, but it was then it went awry !

I said to her that once my wages went back to normal in July, I would be willing to pay the debt off quicker, but she was having none of my "attitude" and after stating some regulations and policy she hung up !

So ... being angered, I called back, and got a bloke. Told him what had happened, and he agreed to my payment of £25 per month for next 3 months !

Now ... what I want to know, is, am I doing the right thing?

If not, what should I do from now, and should I continue to pay them. I have no qualms paying my debt, and am trying to do so, as it is by no means the only one, but I am managing ... just ....

I would just like some advice on how to go about this correctly.

I also have other debts for home improvements that I am being crucified for by interest charges by GE Money, but I will address one thing at a time or should I list all and we can give me my virtual slapping now :(

Thanks for any advice you can give me, the pressure between the wife and I at present is high, lets hope our marriage survives.

Thanks all

Steve

Well, yes, you're doing the right thing. You got the outcome you wanted - they agreed your payment proposal.

Don't be rattled by ignorant call centre staff. They are just a hazard of being in debt. You did the right thing by calling back and speaking to someone more reasonable. And you seem like a reasonable chap yourself.

To be honest, Blair Oliver Scott have been one of my better creditors and are certainly the most polite on the phone. Luckily I have never spoken to the woman you encountered!

  • OK, thank you. I work full time, and have my own business also which is starting to pick up now, and with any luck I should be able to pay off a large chuck of debt around August time too once clients pay me for their weddings, so I can see light but its hard sometimes.

I've been lurking around as a non member here for a while, plucking up courage to post.

    Thanks.

Total debt currently £25K, home improvements, credit cards, store card, car payments etc. Hope to clear £10K this year.

agree with MyLastFiver, they were one of my easiest to deal with.
  • OK, I will take it as a one off then, the guy certainly seemed reasonable .... maybe i called up 1 minute before she finished for the night :)
  • Checked my credit report again today, and seems they have updated the file to show the true balance as per phone call, yet dated it 28th Feb, which I guess againis fine.

One more question, when trying to clear debts, what is the best one to start with, the one with the lowest value, longest term, or highest payment?

I would have thought the one with the highest interest rate would be the one to tackle first , thats what my snowball suggested, although it is motivating to get smaller debts cleared.

    Good luck :)

Highest Interest rate. But if things are very tight, you could start off with the shortest term, in order to cut yourself some slack at the soonest.
