faulty product - is it like for like or only the value of the returned product?

We bought a product from argos and returned it 3 months later due to it being faulty -this product is now also discontinued. they offered to replace it for something of same value? the products of the same value were inferior to the returned product in terms of its features. they had less features, - i asked if i could have a like for like product and they said no only the same value... is this correct,? it doesnt seem fair that i know have to pay more money for the same product to what i had which was faulty.
