Alternative to Feliway

Are there any other alternatives to this? As it is rather expensive! I've just taken in a very shy boy cat, about 6/7 months old, he seems a bit traumatised at the moment and I want to do something to help him.

Thanks peeps :)

well, considering a plug-in last for months, the daily cost of running a feliway diffuser isn't too high, considering the alternatives.

my vet told me to try Rescue Remedy - just adding a couple of drops into my cat's water bowl each day. no idea if it worked as i had a feliway running at the same too! :)

I know its expensive but it is soooo worth it. The change in my cats was pretty much instant and i think its worth the money. I have never heard of an alternative if there is one im afraid.

Zylkene is another alternative that can work in some cats sometimes.

OK, so next thing is, where's the cheapest place to buy it!!

I've also seen the collars that release the pheromones, do these work?

  • I found eBay the cheapest. You may even be able to get a second hand diffuser for a few pounds then the refills are pretty reasonable if you shop about :)

i've found the diffuser refills for a low as £11 on the net - i think it was on a deal at the time. the average i pay is £15 usually from petmeds, vetuk and the suchlike.

I think you will waste money on other things that just don't work, then end up buying the Feliway in the end! I have also used Rescue and other flower remedies but the effect is not as strong and they don't come cheap anyway.

I've bought him one of those collars, and it seems to be working already, last night he had a bit of an explore round the house and even sat on the window sill with my Aussie.
