Hey folks,
Not really my area of expertise this.
I have setup a VOIP account with sipgate with the 'immediate redirect' option selected to redirect any calls to my mobile. So my question is, as the calls are never answered by a VOIP phone do I actually need one ? Will it just redirect to my mobile or am I being really naive ?
Assuming I do need the hardware what is the cheapest way to do this? I have lots of unused conventional phones I can use with modification.
Thanks in advance

I don't know whether Sipgate require that you have a SIP/VOIP phone, but if they do, by far the cheapest and easiest (if you have a PC and headset) is to download one of the many SIP softphones and use that on your PC.
I've tried several, including Ekiga, Twinkle and X-Lite, and they all worked fine with my Asterisk server (though IIRC, X-Lite was a bit more effort, as I think I had to register, even for the free version).0 -

I think some clarification is needed.....
It will only divert to another number if you have credit in your account to pay for the diversion costs. The caller only pays for the call to the type of number they have dialled; they don't pay for the diversion to the other number. For example, I could call your landline number and be billed at 1p per minute but if you have that number diverted to a mobile number then the call obviously wouldn't cost 1p per minute so someone needs to pay that extra cost. As the caller can't pay it then the receiving party has to foot the bill, which means if you want your landline calls diverted to your mobile then you need to have enough credit in your account to cover the cost of the diverted call which is charged on a minute by minute basis.0
