basic bank accounts

i know most people open a co -op or barclays account but my partner has an overdraft with barclays that will go in the br so iwas just going to open a joint co-op account but then i heard that they will close it very easily if you bounce a dd etc. ive read that nationwide do a basic account and wondered if anyone knew if they are the same in regards to closing accounts? obv we will do our best to not go overdrawn on account but its just another thing to worry about suddenly losing account.

The coop operate a 3 strikes rule before they close your account, as far as I know the coop and barclays are the 2 banks most likely to allow you to open an account, but you could always ask the nationwide and see what they say.

I went with Nationwide a few months before I went BR. Shoud have done it sooner though as only have a basic cash card....not a debit card. Been managing fine though, in fact makes me more careful with money as cant just use it whenever I'm shopping. Not the end of the world.

They know my situation but have had no problems with them.

Not sure about if it is just the co-op that has the 3 strike rule, but yes you do get a debit card with them, it is a debit card but not everyone sees it like that, noteably Tesco online, and Asda pay at pump.

Yes, you do get a debit card. I think the Co-op (the only bank) that has the 3 strikes rule.
