Our council arranges 'free' compost days where you go along on a particular day and can fill 3 or 4 bags of free compost. You need to ring your local council to find out if this happens in your local area. The compost they give away is the stuff that is made from all the 'green waste' they collect. you can buy this compost from your local tip but i have found it the same price or sometimes more than shop bought compost.

I have bought some peat free compost to try this year for my seed sowing. From what i have found out it is ok provided you remember it needs watering and feeding more often....i will decide if it's good or bad after i've used it...i only bought it as it was the cheapest around on an offer
