Fortunately it's impossible to tell if that spur and double-socket was fitted last weekend or 10 years ago...
This may be the case in England / Wales (Part P is a sham, but I can't comment on it too much as I don't require it as I am in Scotland)
As expected I would like to disagree
Being registered adds at fair cost to a company (certs are bought online, filled out online and acessable by the council for verification purposes)
There is then insurance, test equipment, calibration of equipment etc...
It is a money COSTING scheme for the people who want to do it right, all costs are inevitabley passed on to the customerbaldly going on...0 -

. Better to have it fitted properly and be safe.

I think they have date/serial codes on them and they can be traced, the date they were made, the same with cable.A thankyou is payment enough .0 -
You're just going to love the Code for Sustainable Homes (mandatory as of October) and accredited construction details. It's all a conspiracy to give the BRE an effective monopoly, a money printing licence and to fund a new breed of consultants. Adds no value to the building and probably uses funds which could be used for improving the performance of the house. The consultancy and registration fees for CSH are around £2000. That assumes you don't buy any add-on services from your accredited CSH assessor like advice on how to meet the arcane rules and points rating system.
That said; I find the traditional council building control officers a great help. They usually try to help find solutions and they are an effective control on builders who are less than diligent. Think about it, your house is a big investment so you have a vested interest in making sure it meets basic standards of safety and welfare.0 -
cable has the year of manufacture stamped on the side and the acessories have a warranty stamp / date code
ps cable manufactured after April 2004 has brown / blue cores, not red / blackbaldly going on...0 -

My understanding was that in many circumstances you can replace/repair existing fittings and circuits without certification, its the initial installation that needs it. So someone could claim the spur was already there, they just put an new fitting on it recently.0
