Buying with Vouchers.

Options
I recently bought a bicycle with a Bike2Work scheme through work and Halfords. The vouchers were accepted by another retailer and I received a new bicycle and accessories, and receipts. After 2 weeks the retailer contacted me saying the Halfords would not honor the voucher, and that we would have to come to some arrangement.

What is my standing here? Having got receipts and paid with a voucher am I still liable to pay for the item, due to halfords not honoring the voucher, or as the retailer accepted the voucher are they liable?

Where should I look for further clarity.

I'm confused, who did you buy the bike from? If it wasn't Halfords then what have they got to do with it?
  • Halfords have alternative suppliers that you can use their vouchers at for bikes they do not stock directly. The retailer should not of accepted the voucher according to Halfords.

What made you chose this particular shop, surely its up to you to check who's a participating retailer. Are you in possesion of the bike yet? If so you can do one of two things, either tell them to do one as they accepted the vouchers in good faith, or you can give back the bike and get it from someone who does accept the vouchers.

Is this Halfords own cycle2work scheme or the more generic bike2work scheme?
  • Halfords own Cycle2Work scheme. I choose the retailer as Halfords at first said I could use the vouchers there, and the retailer also said they would accept them. I am in possession of the bicycle. The issue is that the Cycle2Work scheme is not equal for all employers. my employer has a different cycle2work scheme with Halfords, which only allows it to be redeemed directly with Halfords. This was something I was not aware of at the time of picking up the bike, but the retailer should of been.

I would say that, as you already have the cycle and have paid for it with whatever seemed suitable to the retailer at the time, the deal is complete.

The only arrangement the retailer has to come to, is one with Halfords... to accept their vouchers.

You offered the vouchers as payment for the bike and they were accepted by the retailer. The contract is now concluded. Unlucky for the retailer.

This, you paid using vouchers in good faith, they accepted knowing what they were. Its there error not yours.

I wonder what happened in the end. Perhaps Ian would be so kind as to tell us...
