Dusk 'till dawn lights

Hi,
Has anyone got any experience of fitting or using dusk till dawn exterior lights?

I am thinking of fitting them to the side and back of the house instead of security lights.

Are they expensive to run and do they annoy the neighbours!!

cheers

You must be looking for something to spend your money on, if you are prepared to have outside lights on all night. What's wrong with standard security lights that only come on when someone's about. They would certainly annoy me if they shone in my windows. But then lots of things annoy me. Most of which are caused by other people's thoughtlessness.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

You can get on efor about £25 from screw fix. They take low energy bulbs so are v. cheap to run and have diffusers on them so that they don't amit light pollution like PIR spotlights.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • cheers phil99, yes that is their supposed selling point, low light emmision and low cost, a bit less irritating than security lights, thanks mate.
  • I have had some experience with dusk till dawn lights. The person concerned had security lights but the local scum found that they could walk close to the wall and under the sensors and turn the gas supply off. The only way they were illuminated was by the local cats. All very secure. We fitted low energy bulbs with integral light/dark sensors. They were ok for a while but eventually would stay on all day. These were replaced with full sensor lamps which have so far been OK. The neighbours might be a bit annoyed but the local scum are really annoyed. Shame.

I have used the osram sensor version for over 5 years. I started to use them for security reasons on advice from the local police who said the PIR type spotlights were useless for reasons stated above and others. I have three of them two out the back and one in the front. cant recal if they are 12w or 20w but either way they are low cost to run. I live next to a wood so its pich dark outside without them as well. As regards the neighbours the lights are positioned to avoid them so they are not bothered.
