i use the hose from the vacuum cleaner over my shoulder when i sand down looks odd but it works for me. your dado is the same contour as mine
and i just used normal fine sand paper gently rubbed but i went a bit mad and rubbed quite a bit off giving our dad an olde world effect but looks good lol

use wet and dry sandpaper , dip it in a drop of water , sand down and then wipe off , you will have no dust flying around , w+d paper doesn't have a paper backing so it won't turn in to pulp ,0
