I have been considering selling my house privately(i.e. not using an estate agent) all i need is some advice as to how to go about doing it. thanks in advance

if in E&W, you need Rightmove exposure, so at least use an internet estate agent who can be as little as £500 plus VAT.
without Rightmove the you might sell it through Loot, but you won't get best price.

No, value it yourself. The surveyor will do a valuation anyway for your purchasers (or more exactly, for your purchasers mortgage company).
If no-one views for a month its probably becuase its on for too much.0
