Seriously though, there are a lot less toxic substances available for domestic use  .

I'll have a go with the salt, and save this for a back-up option. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    Hi

I had loads of weeds on my gravel drive and no money to buy weedkillers so I thought I would try household salt.

Wow.... it killed thistles, dandelions, chickweed, and others I can't name in two days... Info I have seen on here - somewhere - says that they should not come back for 6 years.

Cannot use this in a flowerbed or lawn as I believe it will effectively poison the soil but it is great on the drive.

    Me.

How thickly did you apply it? Did you just sprinkle it on? I'd like to give this a go as somehow it seems less poisonous than chemicals.

I often use salt on the weeds on my block paved drive when I have run out of a commercial product, but it certainly doesn't kill them for 6yrs. More like
    2-3 months.

pickledtink, you can sprinkle it on neat or you can mix up about a kilo in a bucket of water & use a jug to pour it over the offending weeds. Mixing it in water seems to work better as the liquid is able to seep right down to the roots fairly quickly. Usually the weed should start to yellow within 2 or 3 days.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
