HSBC - do they ever agree to DMP with CCCS

Am just starting a DMP and HSBC is one of my creditors. One account is a visa card and have received letter from HSBC saying they accept the proposal, but payments must be made by dates on their statements (and not CCCS payment date).

Haven't received any reply from banking arm of HSBC about my overdraft and reserve accounts. They initially wrote and asked me to phone with incoming and outgoing information, but I wrote back and explained that the information was as per the information they had from CCCS.

Last week got a message on my phone from HSBC asking me to go to a local branch to pick up a message. They didn't leave any contact details so I could phone back and discuss. Am now tying myself up in knots as to what this could be? Haven't been able to get to branch yet and can't imagine what message there could be that they can't put in writing through the post to me.

Have read lots of comments that HSBC don't agree to DMP and instead encourage you to take up a managed loan.

  • Hi there, sorry to hear of your troubles, I'm also starting a DMP with CCCS on the 1/4:). Re the message from HSBC I don't think I would be in any hurry to go to your branch as, as you say, why can't they tell you over the phone or in writing?. But then I'm feeling rather militant at the moment and won't play "their" games any more:p

Hey Mummyindebt - I'm starting a DMP 1st April and HSBC have been surprisingly good with me!

They're my biggest creditor with a personal loan and at first just kept calling, once a payment had bounced (I'd informed them I was working with CCCS and sent token payments), no letters from them, just calls....which I ignored.

Then I got a message in my internet banking asking to call ASAP, so I thought I'd better as I wasn't getting anywhere! The guy I spoke to said they hadn't received anything from CCCS but 2 letters from me. As I was at work I couldn't tell him the exact amount the DMP was for as I didn't have it to hand. But he just said 'we don't have a choice but to accept' and updated my account with CCCS details and put to 0% interest...unbelievable I know! The CCCS still need to send them the DMP details again, but I'm hoping they'll be no problems.

If I were you, I'd try and get someone on the phone (which can be easier said than done!), rather than going into a branch.

    HTH, good luck! x

  • Thank you for your replies. Think I will try to get someone on the phone, rather than trundling along to a branch. My instinct is to do nothing, but my curiousity won't allow me. Thanks again.

Hi HSBC never agreed my DMP, they passed it onto Metropolitan Collection and they accepted straight away , by the way dont be fooled into thinking that if they pass the debt over to MC that they are Debt collection agency, they are indeed just part of HSBC who deal with collections.

Good point xgingerx. The exact same thing happened to me. 11 months after starting my DMP, with at least 3 attempts to get me to take out a loan, numerous calls which ended up with me removing my telephone numbers off the internet banking system (simple but works!), letters getting quite nasty and demanding full repayment within 18 days (CCCS advice is to just carry on making the monthly payments), they have finally passed my debt to Metropolitan who have liaised with CCCS and accepted straight away. It's a good thing to know that they are part of HSBC because their printed letter heads, telephone number and address give absolutely no clue...

Another HSBC nightmare...they continued to add interest on my overdraft on a DMP for nearly 2 years...they refused to stop interest but they did accept the DMP, not suprising as the balance increased and they were making more money out of me. They eventually passed it onto in house metropolitan whom ceased adding interest...they are now my last creditor to pay off. NEVER again will i have an account with HSBC

Please ignore my last post, I obviously spoke to soon!

Spoke to CCCS at lunchtime and mentioned my conversation with HSBC and they said they had in fact heard from HSBC as they're querying some of my outgoings!...and if I don't change these, they won't accept DMP and will pass on to Metropolitan...which I hope they do as it's seems they're a lot easier to deal with.

Lesson learned here, don't listen to anything HSBC tell you over the phone, as most of their staff haven't a clue what they're doing!

HSBC collections are scum. Let them pass to Metropolitan. Then you'll be charged no interest and will not have to put up with any more of HSBC's crap.

I have several accounts with HSBC. Life got much easier once they passed the debts on.
