Barclaycard Direct Debit caused missed payment

I have a Barclycard with about £3000 outstanding (credit limit is £4000).
I usually make an online payment from my Barclays account as soon as I get paid which varies from month to month. My pay day is 20th of the month (19th this month as 20th fell on a Saturday), and the payment date for the Barclaycard is usually 21st-24th. I've not missed a payment for about 4 years, and the system worked quite well, though last month I was on holiday and almost forgot to pay.
I decided to set up a Direct Debit for the minimum payment from my Barclays account last month to ensure that I wouldn't miss a payment in the future. The first payment was this month, and the Barclaycard last payment date this month is 22nd (today).
I checked my bank account this morning and the Direct Debit payment had gone out today. I also made an additional payment today via Online Banking of £200 as I put some work expenses on the card last month, and have been paid them back now.
I logged into my Barclaycard account, and the payment is not showing as the DD was only taken today. However I am a little shocked by the 'You have failed to make the minimum payment' message stamped at the top of the page.
I thought that setting up a DD would protect me from missed payments, but it appears that relying on it has caused me problems? It is annoying as had I have known there would a problem I would have paid on Friday, like I would have done if there had been no DD set up.
Will this show up as a missed payment on my credit record, and will Barclaycard issue me with a late payment charge for this? I feel that I have a good case to dispute this if they do.
I have also read a few posts on here about how the Direct Debit is affected by manual payments, but there appear to be several different theories on how it actually works (even Barclaycard customer services don't appear to be consistent). I am likely to make manual payments in some months to pay off work expenses, so I could do with knowing the best way to do this without it affecting the direct debit (i.e. will performing a manual payment on the same day as the direct debit do the trick?)

Call them and complain. If you statement said that "this amount will collected by DD" and they set it up for wrong day they need to put it right.
As for manual payments not affecting your DD - I usually set the payment to arrive on the same day as the DD for minimum is taken..0 -
Barclaycard Online Billing only shows payments credited to the account the day after it was actually credited.
I have the same, I pay via Faster Payments.
If I paid £50 right now from my current account online banking I'd only see the transaction on Barclaycard Online tomorrow, but the £50 credit will be dated with today's date.

That's the way it is. They (and the computers too) need time to process the payment.0

I actually got a profuse apology for the same thing when I complained. Basically the online service is rubbish. The message will disappear tomorrow or the day after, I suspect. Complain anyway, it might get them to change it...Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I wouldn't call it rubbish!
I've used a lot of credit card online servicing sites in my time and I've found Barclaycard to be one of the best.
Certainly when compared with the likes of https://www.creationfs.co.uk
Bottom line is if the DD was taken from your account they won't mark the payment as late irrespective of what you see online / elsewhere :beer:Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Ok, perhaps 'rubbish' was a bit on the harsh side. It has got considerably better since the early days of the redesign. At least it tends to be able to add up correctly these days.
But some of the messages it displays (such as "You're in the !!!!!!!" as per this thread) seem to still be incredibly trigger-happy, and it's not helpful.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Definitely agreed, that message should be removed! :beer:Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

As per iztools and Simone, there was no problem in the end. Both payments are now showing with a payment date of 22nd, and there are no charges on this month's statement.
I wish they wouldn't scare me like that.
I also think the site is pretty good in general, a lot better than it used to be.0 -
I think that Barclaycard payment system is not very good, I have had payments disappear and have had to wait 10 to 20 days for them to trace where the payment have gone so they can redirect to my account. It does'nt help that call centre staff are not equiped to help resolve unusal problems.0
