Help! Lost documents?

We moved in February and since then I have searched high and low for my husbands van file - it had the log book, MOT and insurance documents in it.

I have paid my £25 to the DVLA for a replacement logbook, and called the MOT garage to find out when the MOT is due but I dont know how to find out the insurance details?

I am usually very good at this type of thing but I cant for the life of me remember who we insured him with, and when the renewal is due - I cant find anything on my bank statement but in the back of my mind I think I remember paying cash over the counter at the bank. Is there anywhere I can find out who insures him? :o

Mikey, sorry - just checked and all it says is:

The details on the MID are:

    Vehicle Make/Model:VAUXHALL ASTRAVAN
If these details are not correct, check the registration entered or contact your insurance provider.

To buy a report you have to say the car has been in an accident and I dont want to do that if its going to show up on insurance checks etc because it hasnt been in one? Can you tell me if I can use it without any comeback from insurance checks?

I fail to see how you cant remember who you are insured with!
For the MOT you would need to know a rough date and then call the garage who done the last one and they can look it up. But as you can imagine they will do hundreds of them so its not possible for them to check if you have absolutly no idea!
The police will also know I would imagine. But you would have to have a good reason for asking them as they wouldnt just give the info to anybody.
I was involved in an accident about a month ago and reported it to the police afterwards. A week later I got a call as my car doesnt register on the insurance database, as Im on a motortrade policy, and asked to bring my V5 and insurance in. I asked if they wanted my mot aswell and he said no as that info is on the system when he inputs my reg it comes up with where it was mot'd and when.

Karen if you knew me, you'd realise this is not a mistake I would make often - I am anal about my paperwork but one file has been mislaid. Have you never made a mistake? I work full time, look after all the finances of our home, and have two kids under 3 - most days I am trying to remember 150 things I have to do today and this one thing has passed me by.

I paid his commercial insurance myself and I'm sure I paid cash over the counter with a bank giro form but again I cant be sure. I think it was around the £240 mark, but theres nothing in my bank statements to confirm a payment of this kind of amount.

I have already sorted a new logbook and MOT certificate for him (at a cost of £25 and £10 respectively). I just need to find out who he's insured with.

There are a couple of helpful guys on here who work in the insurance industry and I suppose have access to the MID, with a bit of luck you’ll get a PM from one of them.

Failing that you can either try ringing you own insurance claims dept see if they will help, or tell lies to the MID and pay your £3.50. I wouldn’t have thought that a single enquiry would be recorded and affect anything later on.

Actually I think I’d be tempted to contact MID and ask their advice.

Once you find who you are insured with ring them up and notify change of address, which hopefully will be free rather than the admin charge associated with lost documents.

Have you checked behind the fridge for the file

I've just done it - contacted MID and got the details - on the site it asks why you need to get the information and I filled it in honestly. Thank you so much!

Just a quick update - he was registered with NIG, with Budget as the brokers. So so lucky - his insurance runs out at the end of this month!
